Christmas Window Splash at Deroche General Store

At Deroche General Store & Liquor, the spirit of Christmas has come alive as a magical commemoration of Dr. Seuss' classic tale, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," adorns their storefront windows. The window splash painting spanned a couple of days from start to finish. The artwork captivates customers before entering the store with strokes of vibrant colour, the Grinch's mischievous grin, and Whoville's bustling joy. Every twist and turn of the brush was documented using an Akaso EK7000 Pro action camera on the superwide video setting. This allowed the camera to capture the finest details, ensuring that the entire process could be relished by people near and far. The video footage is a testament to the dedication and creativity poured into creating such a whimsical Christmas masterpiece. Christmas Window Splash at Fraser Valley Regional Library

I recently had the opportunity to showcase my creative talents by painting a Christmas window splash at Fraser Valley Regional Library Administrative Centre. The task was to bring a festive and inviting atmosphere to the administrative office space, and I was thrilled to take charge of the design concept. Painting the window spanned over a couple of days, allowing me to craft and execute the artwork. With each stroke of paint, I brought to life a winter wonderland scene adorned with a snowman, vintage baubles, an upside-down book as a tree with gifts and a chill Polar Bear reading “Twas the Night Before Christmas.” The final result was a visually striking display that captured the holiday spirit and instantly drew the attention of staff and visitors alike.

Happy Halloween Window Sign Painting

Happy Halloween Window Sign Painting | Deroche General Store

🎃 👻 🦇 It is already October and the season for spookiness! I just finished a window sign painting for Deroche General Store. I pitched the idea last week to the store owner since I have created in-store signage in the past

The project came together quickly, I created a pencil sketch first and then moved to the computer for final visualization. The design was approved, and the next step was a list of supplies and costs for materials. I researched online and in-store and found what I needed to make the project successful. I find that if you can plan in advance and stay fluid at the same time, it all works out.

For the lettering and imagery, I created pounce patterns on large format paper and measured the distance around the windows for a perfect fit.

The weather for the two days was perfect, and the window was situated under a canopy overhang, which provided shade from the sun. The first step was cleaning and prepping, along with measuring and taping up the pounce patterns onto the windows. After that, most of the day was spent priming the text and imagery. The second day was adding more paint (colour) and working on adding layers and detail to the artwork. Over the two days, the public (customers) were very nice and stopped to say hello and comment during the progression.

I am looking forward to the Holidays and starting to think about what the Deroche General Store windows might look like. Stay tuned 😉

Hand Lettered Tarot Sign

I recently finished crafting a hand lettered tarot sign (sandwich board style) using some leftover plywood from my Cutout Photo Standees project. I applied gesso first and measured the letters for height and width. Next I applied a brown antiqued wash over the gesso and began hand painting the TAROT letters on both sides of the board. The final touch was adding a few icons and images related to tarot (moon, pentacles, symbols) along with the logo to my wife’s business ApotheCarrie Tarot
